Charles Anderson Wickliffe was born near Springfield, Kentucky, June 8, 1788. During the War of 1812, Wickliffe served as a private but was eventually promoted to aide-de-camp to Gen. Samuel Caldwell. He served as soldier and officer at the Battle of the Thames where an army of Kentuckians under congressman Richard M.
